Standing strong with Working People

Natrona County Democratic Platform

We, as Democrats of Natrona County, support the Constitutions of the United States of America and Wyoming as living documents that provide the framework of government for an ever-changing nation of people. The Natrona County Democratic Party is a political organization within that framework, established and operated through open, fair, inclusive and other evolving democratic principles.

CHILDREN’S ISSUES
We believe the moral high ground of the party’s platform should be how it best serves its children.

CIVIL RIGHTS
We recognize the Constitution’s Bill of Rights as the bedrock of both individual liberties and national strength. We assert that all people should be secure in their persons, homes, schools, work places and communities and free from government intrusion into their privacy, or government abuse of power, and/or discriminatory treatment.

CONSERVATION, ENVIRONMENT, WILDLIFE, AND PUBLIC LANDS
We support the protection and conservation of Wyoming's environment, wildlife, and public lands. Good environmental stewardship and conservation are core Wyoming values. We acknowledge the impact of climate change. We support the transition to sustainability and the expansion of the use of alternative energy sources.

ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT
We support the diversification of the state’s economy. We encourage comprehensive accounting of expenditures and results of the state’s economic development efforts.

EDUCATION
We support the Wyoming State Constitution’s provision for a complete and uniform system of public instruction for all of Wyoming’s children. We support and advocate for a quality educational system from preschool through higher education. We oppose state level funding cuts that negatively impact both children and adults including cuts in school construction and maintenance funds.

FEDERAL FOREIGN POLICY
We reject global imperialism in American foreign policy based upon economic dominance, unilateralism, and a pre-emptive strike doctrine.

CULTURE AND FINE ARTS
We support strong public patronage for the fine arts on both the professional and amateur level and for people of all ages. We support and recognize the importance of cultural diversity.

HEALTHCARE
We support national system-wide health care reform.

We believe all Wyoming people deserve affordable, quality, and comprehensive medical and mental health care.

IMMIGRATION
We support comprehensive, effective and compassionate reform of our current immigration policies, honoring the rule of law.

We strongly oppose the adoption of local or state statutes that deprive immigrants of the common benefits of all residents.

INTEGRITY IN GOVERNMENT

Ours should be one of uncompromising dedication to the rule of law, applied impartially and consistently.
We support the passage and strict enforcement of laws regulating ethics and conflicts of interest as they pertain to all state and local government officials; and public financing for federal, state and legislative political campaigns.

We support the complete elimination of discrimination against any identifiable group in elections.
We oppose all voting methods that do not provide a “paper trail” for each ballot cast; the disenfranchisement of qualified voters through intimidation, misinformation and development of obstacles to the free exercise of the right to vote, including voter ID laws that have a disproportionate negative impact on minorities; and attempts to gerrymander election districts as an attack on democracy.

JUDICIARY AND PENAL SYSTEM
We honor and treasure that the United States and Wyoming Constitutions create and recognize an independent judiciary as the third branch of government.

We support a judiciary and penal system that is fair, just and accessible to all, with particular concern for the unique needs of juveniles.

LABOR
We support Wyoming workers as the cornerstone of the Wyoming Democratic Party. The party will never retreat from the fight for the rights, dignity, health and safety that all workers deserve. We recognize the value and importance of public employees at all levels to our economic and social well being.
As Democrats we support the principles of industrial democracy and free collective bargaining. We strongly believe the concept of majority rule should be applied to the workplace. We believe that the workers and employers should be free from unnecessary government interference with the right to create contractual relationships.

We oppose the use of tipping exemptions and the discriminatory minimum wage currently paid to tipped employees.

We deplore the indifference of state government to the gender wage gap in Wyoming.
We support fair compensation and treatment for injured workers under Wyoming's Worker Compensation Law.

TAXES
We support establishing a 1% severance tax to provide a State Trust Fund to guarantee state physical and mental health insurance, medical and dental liability funding pools, to train medical personnel, establish physical and mental health clinic access in Wyoming communities and build infrastructure, including highways and schools.

We support increasing taxes on both tobacco and alcohol sales to go toward the providing of a state health care system.

We oppose reinstating sales tax on groceries.

We believe taxes support our society and payment thereof is the responsibility of every citizen.

RESOLUTIONS

INTEGRITY IN GOVERNMENT
We seek an official written or recorded journal of every word, vote and act given and performed during all sessions of the State Legislature in the Senate, the House, and their committees.

Resolved that the original planners of the Iraq War be investigated for crimes against humanity.

SUPPORT OUR TROOPS

We support our troops and we support our veterans.
